ABOUT THE PROJECT
This research project fits into the scope of the achievement of the objectives of innovation and sustainable development, protection of the territory and the environment, and improvement of the life quality. In detail, the research activity has four general objectives:
- to save electricity and thermal energy from the building sector;
- to reduce GHG (greenhouse gasses) emissions and, therefore, to improve air quality also through strategies for energy efficiency and mitigation of the urban heat island, a phenomenon linked to climate change, of recognized anthropogenic origin; to improve indoor and outdoor environmental comfort conditions and, therefore, the quality of life and well-being of people and assess the
- consequences of this improvement on occupants’ behavior and energy consumption;
- to educate people about energy saving through triggering campaigns, based on the concept of sharing environmental and energy profiles, that drive the minimization of energy waste, in the perspective of smart communities.
THE CASE STUDY
The partner company of the project, i.e. Impresa Valeri Lanfranco, provided the case study, which is an oil mill industry located in Bastardo (PG). The building hosts both industrial and administrative activities. The partner company provided all the information required for the analysis of the current state and operation of the building. The buildings was built in early 2000s. It is characterized by a prefabricated structure and served by fan coil units as HVAC distribution system. To the purposed of this study, the area of the building hosting the company’s offices was specifically analyzed. It is located on the second and last floor of the building in the East oriented corner.
